Huge! Nasty! Even scary!
My tomato plants had been doing great; they were starting their own jungle, but then the leaves started getting holes. I had blamed the grasshoppers, since this year seems to be the year of the hopper. Hadn't looked too closely at the plants until David found one. We were both practically screaming as he held that first one up. I'd seen them before, but it had been a long time. Everything about these pesty worms is impressive. When all was said and done (and the sun was gone) we had probably sliced 15 of them in half with gardening shears. One plant was a casualty, so we just pulled it, lest it contaminate the rest of the plants. Our dog Pepper had to try one, and apparently they're noxious, because he didn't have it in his mouth long before he was sneezing and coughing!
What kind of moth lays eggs that turn into such huge larva?! Click here for the some answers!
