Lemon Basil!

Have you ever tried this herb?! You've got to try it! Better yet, your garden NEEDS some of this! I picked out a plant earlier this month from the Home Depot nursery--mostly out of curiosity/skepticism after reading the label--and it has proven to be my ace in the hole for summer cooking. It's not a big bushy plant like regular basil is. The leaves are a lighter green and are more delicate. I've planted regular basil before, and to put it politely, it turned into a real pesty plant. (Bad memories of the Basil War on the lawn... Another story altogether!)

Anyway, when you pull a leaf off the lemon basil, you can smell the citrus-y goodness immediately. It lends its flavor to any dish. I've mixed it in with pasta, in marinades, when sauteing veggies... Can't say enough great things about this herb and I can't wait to try it on the new potatoes in my latest latke recipe! Stay tuned!
